OK fellow clothing hoarders, it’s time to clean out those closets and pass along your still-in-good-condition clothing to incoming Syrian refugees. A group of kind-hearted people have organized a clothing drive for this Saturday, December 5, at The Ossington (61 Ossington) that will see your old sweaters and jeans find a good new home with some of Toronto’s newest residents.
While the drive is accepting all different types of clothing, they are in particular looking for winter-appropriate clothing for young adults as well as new socks and underwear (so here’s your excuse for getting rid of that package of Hanes granny panties that your mom gave you last Christmas and that you’ve yet to open). I happen to have a couple old, but still decent, winter coats that I’ll be dropping off and then there is Husband’s overstuffed closet. Yep, he’s got a few things that can be donated.
Need another reason to check out this event? Well, it is happening inside a bar and yes, they will be serving alcohol, some of which will be only $4 a drink. I believe that information on Syria, its refugees and how they are being resettled in Canada will also be provided at this event (so yes, it’s also educational).
The drive runs from 2pm until 4pm though if you can’t make it out during that time, there are other options for getting your clothes to the refugees; just check out the Facebook event for more details.
