What are you doing on Thursday, October 2? If you love discovering talented new bands, you’ll want to come to the Rivoli and check out Groenland with special guest Secret Sun (I should disclaim now and state that I work for Massey Hall, the promoter behind this date).
Both bands are from Montreal and both have bright futures. Secret Sun is a duo that delivers unpredictable pop songs that are often synth-y, sometimes dark and always anchored around Anne-Marie Campbell’s dreamy female vocals (Simon Landry makes up the other half). They’re on at 9 pm and will be performing songs off their new album, Cold Coast, which is out on September 30.
Groenland also features female vocals however, it’s more roots-driven, with the keys imitating a real piano. It also features six members, all of whom bring something to the table (including strings). The result is a sound that seamlessly moves from simple and sweet to rich and varied. They’ll take to the stage at 10 pm.
Tickets are $15 and while some might be available at the door, if you want to guarantee yourself a spot, order your tickets now.
