Have any plans for Saturday, September 20? No? Well, now you do because that night is playing host to different but great local events.
First up is the Bloor Ossington Folk Festival. This event actually runs from Friday, September 19 until Sunday, September 21 but I have a feeling that the big names will be performing on Saturday. And who are those big names? Julie Doiron and the Wrong Guys, Brendan Canning, AroarA. Over two dozen other acts will also perform over the weekend.
As the name suggests, this festival is set around the Bloor Ossington intersection. Performances will take place at several venues including outdoors at Christie Pitts(where Dave Bidini will be the masters of ceremonies) and indoor at Saving Gigi, Bassline and Studio 835. More details, including who is playing where, will be posted soon. Oh, and have I mentioned yet that this a completely free event?
September 20 is also when the Ossington Community Association is holding a fundraising auction to support itself and its neighbourhood-oriented causes (like smart development). Up for grabs are gift cards to a variety of local businesses including Bellwoods Brewery and Victoire clothing store, a framed triptych from Stephen Bulger Gallery and two separate three-day Muskoka getaway on Lake Rousseau.
While the party, which will feature live music, cabaret and dancing, is Saturday night at the Lower Ossington Theatre, you can actually pre-bid on items starting right now. I definitely have my eye on a couple of items!
I would love to check out both of these event however, I have to miss them as I’ll be out of town at a wedding (which will also be pretty fun and is open bar, like all good weddings should be). If you go, have a great time and maybe bring a friend or two to these great, local events.
